Right Place Right Time

Sometimes we think that when a miracle happens, it has to all be supernatural to the eye. But God can work through little natural things too. He can make sure you are at the right place at the right time with the right people, and everything falls into place for whatever you need.

That’s how my miracle happened. I was out driving one day with my two daughters, and we were planning to go downtown to have lunch. We had just left an appointment, and my youngest was driving, which was nice because I was always the one to drive. Besides, I felt a bit funny.

As we're heading to the freeway to go downtown, I kept saying to my daughter, “I feel strange.” I thought maybe I was just hungry because I hadn't eaten for a while. So I suggested pulling into a Starbucks so I could grab something quick to eat.

But my younger daughter said, “Mom, I think I should take you to the ER.”

She wasn’t used to me talking like I was. I never complain about not feeling well.

But I said, “No no, I’m fine. I'm fine.”

But as we’re driving, I heard something else come out of my mouth. I never even thought to speak those words. I heard myself say, “Emergency 911.” And then I couldn't speak at all.

At that moment, I had a stroke. My whole left side went out. I leaned my head over on the dashboard. I was sweating, and trying to get some air from the air conditioner.

My daughter straightaway called 911. When they asked where we were, it turned out we were just around the corner from the hospital. We went straight to the emergency entrance, and pulled up. The nurses were waiting, and they raced me to the back where five people surrounded me immediately, checking my eyes and throat.

After several tests, they said that I had a blood clot in my brain stem, and that a surgeon had to get it out immediately!

After my husband found us at the hospital and agreed, they got me prepped and took me into the operating room. While I'm laying there, staring up at the surgery light and waiting for the anesthetic to hit me, there was absolutely no fear. I just knew that, no matter what happened, God was helping me.

But what I didn’t know is you have to be completely conscious when they do brain surgery, so the anesthetic they use only numbs you. That freaked me out more than anything! Yet even while I could feel them working on my brain, the only thing I kept thinking was, “Wow! I could actually die today! I could actually see Jesus! Lord. I'm so ready!”

But I didn’t die.

After they operated, they did more tests—MRI, cardiograms, and all kinds of things. All normal. I had absolutely no residual effects from that stroke. By the next morning I was speaking normally. I could use my left side. I could walk, and I felt fine.

The stroke happened on a Thursday afternoon, and the doctor said if everything went well, I could be out of the hospital by Sunday. But they threw me out Saturday morning! I felt so good, I even considered going back to work that day, but my family wouldn’t let me.

I know God's healing power. And I know he could have just taken that blood clot right out of my brain . So why did I need to go to the hospital and go through all that? I don't know. All I know is I want to be led by the Spirit of God in every situation, and when I do that, everything will work out fine!
